Steve Bellamy studied at Ilam School of Fine Arts in the 1980’s majoring in graphic design. After working in commercial design firms he completed a trade
in sign-writing and has his own company based in Nelson. Steve’s approach to painting sea and landscapes is to render realism as a facade to allow fluid rhythms to emerge from the work. These rhythms create an interplay between them resulting in a flowing effect in the paintings.
Bellamy enjoys fishing and often the viewpoints shown in his paintings are from his boat, giving a new perspective on local landscape. Bellamy concentrates on producing water effects and stylizes the landscape with the use of aerial perspective and soft brushwork. He is exhibiting in Nelson, Wellington and Auckland in 2017.
