Atkins Gallery is a new venture in 2017 for Linda Atkins, who was co-director of Catchment Gallery in Nelson from 2004 to 2007, which showcased Nelson artists alongside national painters, print makers, ceramic artists, sculptors and jewellers. The Atkins Gallery continues this tradition by exhibiting a range of contemporary artists from Nelson and the rest of New Zealand, focusing on quality art and objects in a professional dealer gallery setting.
Linda’s experience includes ten years in the art gallery world, working in the specialist limited edition print gallery Portfolio Gallery in the 1980s; craft gallery Art by the Sea, and Flagstaff Gallery in Devonport in the 1990’s; The Lane Gallery in Auckland city (2000 – 2002) showing emerging and established painters and print makers; and the Left Bank Gallery in Greymouth (2007 – 2008), exhibiting the best of artists from the West Coast and beyond.
Linda’s background includes attending many workshops on painting, photography, printmaking and ceramics, and she completed a masters degree in art history at Auckland University in 1990, and spent several years tutoring art history in tertiary art schools, including Nelson Polytechnic in 1993, and AUT in the late 1990’s. This technical and theoretical knowledge informs her gallery practice, when dealing with artists and clients.
Atkins Gallery also offers professional representation and resale of private artworks, if you would like to on-sell artwork from your collection come in for a consultation with Linda.
